The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) convened a high-level business conference in Dubai with the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) on 15 March 2017. Earth Security's CEO Alejandro Litovsky was invited to introduce the challenges and opportunities related to resource security, competitiveness and sustainable business. He chaired a strategic discussion with Philippe Joubert, former President of Alstom Power, and Jose Lopez, former Board member for global operations of Nestle on business decision-making in the face of resource scarcity.

In 2016 we anticipated that global companies will be exposed to greater public scrutiny due to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We predict that global companies, many of which have mastered management targets such as carbon or water efficiency, will be mostly pressured by social factors, rising inequality and the quality of access to resources and services. These will require a more nuanced political engagement from business on societal interests.

September 19, New York – Following the United Nations Global Compact’s CEO Private Sector Forum in New York, Earth Security and SABMiller, the global beer group, convened a dialogue to release and discuss the SDG Self-Assessment Tool, which Earth Security and SABMiller have developed in cooperation.

Groundwater depletion is one of the next big business issues. Of the 500+ transboundary aquifers on which the world depends for drinking water, only 6 have agreements in place to manage their water use. 90% of groundwater is unregulated, unmonitored, and much of it is being depleted at an alarming rate.

Over the last two years, Earth Security has advised the development of the BMW Foundation Global Tables, which concluded with a high-level 1st Berlin Global Forum. The Global Tables have created a new stakeholder engagement format, providing an intimate, off-the-record, and high-level meeting in isolated places in nature, which seek to connect the industrial and diplomatic interests of Europe and leading emerging economies on critical sustainable development challenges.

India’s recent insurance reforms have increased the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) limit from 26 to 49% in the insurance sector. Between 2 and 10 USD billion of new FDI flows is expected to enter the market, with the potential to increase participation from currently low penetration rates (3% GDP), product innovation, improve risk management, and support India’s significant infrastructure financing requirements.
